A Message from the Founder
I wasn’t a normal child – I read encyclopedias. And I memorized the entire Guinness Book of World at the age of 7.
I’m also very competitive. I love competition of any sort, and hate losing with a passion. I funneled my competitive energy into sports until I found a game called quiz bowl. I quit the life of an athlete on the high school basketball and baseball teams and entered the world of academic competition. Believe it or not, choosing trivia over sports changed my life.
My team won the Arkansas Quiz Bowl state championship. We defeated the national champion Fort Smith Northside team twice in a row in televised matches. I was a pretty solid player, but it sure didn’t hurt that one of my teammates went on to be one of the 10 best Jeopardy! players of all time…
From there, I started a quiz bowl preparation company that sold practice questions, study aids, and buzzer systems nationwide. Our trivia products were purchased by one out of every 10 schools in the nation, and we wrote the state tournament questions for most of the large state quiz bowl tournaments in the late 1990s.
The quiz bowl business supported my young family though medical school. Somehow, I paid for medical school with trivia!
I completed a family practice residency in 2004, but I have never practiced medicine. During my residency, I built an ecommerce company. It was successful enough for me to quit working 100 hour weeks as a physician, and instead to return working on one of my passions – trivia competition.
Litely Salted Trivia is a work in progress. Over time, we hope to build the Internet’s largest repository for trivia competition. An online trivia encyclopedia, a trivia blog, and, most importantly, a world-class trivia game.
Thanks for taking part in my dream project! I hope you enjoy it…
