MTV aired its annual Video Music Awards last night, and as of this writing, I do not yet know who won any of the categories, though I’m assuming that Lady Gaga won several. As of any writing, however, I very much doubt that I’d care who won. It’s not like I’ve seen any of the videos (OK. I might have seen a few Lady Gaga melodic nightmares on YouTube).
Indeed, people have been complaining about how MTV never plays videos almost as long now as the time during which MTV actually played videos. In fact, there’s an entire generation of MTV viewers — the current target demographic — who aren’t even familiar with a time in which videos were frequently played on the station. Yes: It’s come to that. MTV playing videos has become another one of those, “Back in my day,” things that people in their 30s ruminate about. Geezers.
This quiz is for those old folks, who remember the good old days when MTV played mostly horrible music videos, 80 percent of which nobody even liked. Those were the good days.
