Howard Stern, who apparently didn't die off after the 90's (although the same can't really be said for his career,) was on his show yesterday talking about Gabourey Sidibe, where he said that she was "the size of a planet" and that she would never get work again because she was fat. Which strikes me as odd, since Howard Stern looks like a gay version of Slash and even he still has work. Go figure.
"There's the most enormous, fat black chick I've ever seen. She is
enormous. Everyone's pretending she's a part of show business and she's
never going to be in another movie," he said. "She should have gotten
the Best Actress award because she's never going to have another shot.
What movie is she gonna be in?"
[...] It looks like Gabby will prove Stern wrong. She is lined up to appear
on the new Showtime series 'The C Word' and her next big-screen
appearance will be opposite Zoe Kravitz in the drama 'Yelling to the
Sky.' (Source)
Ugh, whatever Howard Stern. Yes, Gabourey Sidibe is fat. But you know what? She gets work because she has these things called "talent" and "a sense of humor", whereas you have work because you can't tell the difference between "subversive" and "swearing into a microphone." As punishment for your treachery (and for generally acting like a gigantic douchewaffle) you will have your pants pulled down and you will be spanked by Moon rocks.
I think Gabby is fantastic and I'm really happy for her, but honestly? I didn't really think she'd work again either. Howard Stern was being an asshole about it, of course, but...it's Hollywood, and let's face it, girls who look like Gabby are not exactly staples in movies.
Howard Stern has the brain of a testosterone fueled 16 year old with a permanent hard on. His radio show is ridiculous. I just consider the source when I read comments like that.
Whiskey reeking girl here. I hate Howard Stern. For the record, I just think it's wrong to glorify morbid obesity. Forget working ever again in Hollywood, I would be more worried about living past 35. Heart disease, lung disease, stroke, cancer, Alzheimer's disease, Diabetes...obesity plays a role in all of these things and more.
Gabby might have a great personality but it doesn't matter much when you're dead.
Chances are I'd be totally fine if she lost weight, especially if it meant her living longer. And I love you too Soph...Even if you do reek of the whiskey.
It all boils down to this: Would you put your tongue in her.....
Stern is a jerk, but basically right in this one instance. She may get a few roles as the plucky fat best friend--but that is it. And even that--Hollywood's idea of fat is a woman with muscle tone who wears a size 6.
Stern is an asshole, but he has a point. She is seriously unhealthy. What good is talent if you die prematurely. That said, his sidekick Robin is truly pathetic. Does she ever have an opinion besides laughing at the asswipe?
Yes, Gabby is at a higher risk for obesity-related illnesses like heart disease and diabetes. But the majority of starved, drugged-up starlets aren't doing to well at living healthy, productive lives past the age of 35, either.
I think the real issue is that people are profoundly uncomfortable with a woman that size showing up on their TVs without being apologetic and ashamed of herself. I've seen many comments along the lines of "she needs to lose weight for her own health," but I wonder if what these posters really want is for her to lose weight so they don't have to be confronted with her and the issues she represents.
When one deliberates the issue at hand, i have to agree with your determinations. You clearly show knowledge about this theme and i have much to find out after reading your post.Much salutations and i will come back for any further updates.
