Meet Katherine Heigl's New Kid

heigl_091809.jpgKatherine Heigl and Josh Kelley have had their adopted Korean daughter Naleigh for all of like five minutes now, so naturally they've already released this photo to the public of the three of them locked in a loving embrace. I know this is kind of terrible to say, but Heigl has been getting a lot of bad publicity lately. And I mean a lot. Like, even more so than usual. Which was already a lot to begin with. So does anyone else wonder if this whole thing might just be a publicity adoption? I don't know if that says more about Katherine Heigl or myself that I would even think something like that. Probably just me, though. If there's one thing about me, it's that I can never take a loving gesture at face value without wondering what ulterior motives might lie behind it. Say what you will, but I like to call it a "survival tactic."

I don't know, she said her sister was adopted and Korean, so this may be something she grew up wanting to do.

is it jsut me or does this remind anyone of the pic taken of britney, k-fed and sean when he was born. or i think it was the dog london when they got engaged. creepy pic. that guy looks odd with his head like that. poor kid having her as a mother

Did they give her that name? Because either way (Naleigh Heigl? Naleigh Kelly?) that poor kid is going to have trouble. Interesting, Naleigh is an anagram for "an Heigl" (which is how I assume the Brits would write it...).

I don't know about her, but he looks completely besotted with the baby, and the baby with him. Maybe this was a compromise between them about having children... I could see her not wanting to "ruin her figure."

I'm with you Stacey, I never take anything anyone in Hollywood does at face value. Call it a black heart, but I'm suspicious of the Hagel.

The kid is cute and doesn't look to be a special needs child, I assumed Dow syndrome. The name Nancy Leigh is so odd for a modern child, imo.

I normally love your blog. But come on, you do not adopt a special needs child just for publicity. Do you have any idea how hard it is to raise a child, much less one with special needs? She's not my favorite person either but I give her mad props for this move, it takes a good person to adopt and a better person to give a special needs kid a great life.

Did I miss something? I don't remember reading anything about a special needs child. Or "Nancy". Jeez, people.

This is a bit awkward, but I'm going to come out and say it: just because the baby doesn't have huge sparkly eyes does not mean it has "Dow syndrome" or is a "special needs child."

A lot of times, Asian babies happen to look like that. Naturally.

God you people are ignorant.

Carolyn said:

Oh my god!?! Are people really that stupid? She adopted a asian baby and people think she is a downs syndrome baby? That is so sad and stupid it detours right into funny.

Carolyn said:

And really IF this baby is special needs she seems very small. At 10 months most babies are too big for a baby seat like she was seen in. Maybe she has some form of dwarfism.

Oh hon. Adopting a child isn’t like ordering a pizza; it’s a lengthy, tedious process. To suggest this adoption is in response to recent bad press isn’t just terrible, it’s embarrassingly ignorant.

On Ellen last week, Katherine Heigl explained she and her hubby began the process over a year ago, and discussed adoption even before they were married. Why is she so keen on adoption? Her big sister was adopted from Korea in the 70’s. Adoption is something she’s wanted to do for many years; long before “bad press” was an issue.

Mother's first name is Nancy, sister's middle name is Leigh. 'Nayleigh' is a nickname.

As far as I can tell:

-that baby is spine-meltingly adorable.
-'spot the affliction' isn't a failsafe examination.
-the 'special needs' in question are none of our business.
-you don't just adopt because you're bored. To adopt a baby from Korea, you have to be of a certain age, income, married, health status and lifestyle to be deemed fit. I wouldn't be surprised if she were forced to stop smoking before she was able to have her daughter.
-i've heard some talk about this for a few years, before she was married, I think.

I normally can't abide her, but sometimes you have to suck it up and judge the book by its contents.

Just an fyi, this is where the "Nancy" and "special needs" talk is coming from. I don't think they were being ignorant about her Asian eyes, you silly billies!

named Nancy Leigh, after her mother Nancy and sister Margaret Leigh. The rep adds that baby Nancy will go by the nickname "Naleigh."

She is a special needs baby and because of that it all moved so much faster. They wanted to get her to us as quickly as possible," she added.

Can't stand Heigl but that is one helluva cute baby!

Shame on you for your disgraceful comments. I wonder what it must be like to live with so much hate in your soul.

of course it's a ploy. the minivan majority responds to babies. there's nothing like a baby to reduce the c**t factor that has been haunting Heil Heigl's career.

Sara said:

The fact that we're only hearing about this in full now, and not a year ago when the process supposedly began, makes me think that this is a real deal for them.

You are one messed up chick. My sympathies.

This makes me remember something that my aunt would always say...
Obviously its most likely not appropriate at this time...
