Clay Aiken wrote on his blog about what he thought of the finale of "American Idol" -- which I can't link directly to because you actually have to
pay for it -- and he was pleased with the outcome of Adam Lambert losing. Probably because he hates him for being A Gay like
the rest of America.
To this, Aiken opened the floodgates: "I couldn't be happier about the way "AI" ended this year. I only turn the show on once a season... This year, I happened to turn it during the minute that Adam Lambert was singing ‘Ring of Fire’ and, at that moment, thought my ears would bleed. Contrived, awful, and slightly frightening!"
Not that Aiken had much to compare to. He continues, "I never saw Kris sing on the show, but whether he was good or not is really relative. It's usually a matter of taste, right?.... ["American Idol" is] about the person you like."
In the lengthy post, Aiken continued to elaborate on this year’s competition in general: "In a battle between David and Goliath, my money is on David!
I think many voters got sick of being ‘told who to vote for.’ I think many were turned off by the blatant favoritism shown towards one contestant... I think they voted AGAINST an American Idol that has, for four years now, been more about the slick productions and polished contestants than it has been about finding the raw talent
. [Votes for Kris] were votes that said ‘we're tired of seeing contestants who already seem to know it all.’" (Source)
Jesus, what is this guy, the Katherine Heigl of karaoke contests? I think what Clay meant to say was that he appreciated everything "American Idol" has done for him so that to this day he's not still getting his ass kicked outside of bars in whatever ass stain little redneck town he's from and is instead afforded the ability to write on a blog which middle-aged women pay $29.95 a year to read. That sounds
much better.
I have to agree with every word Clay Aiken said on his blog.
Seconded. I've never seen the show outside of the random clips that you run into through whatever media outlets, so I can't comment on who was 'better'. So, from that non-insider perspective, I really have to agree with Aiken. I had never heard of Kris Allen before last night, but I'm been hearing the name Adam Lambert for months. Apparently, he's on magazines, judges on the show are saying outright that he should win, and a bunch of other crap. Even from my removed position, it seemed like there were a lot of machinations surrounding this Lambert Guy, talented or not.
Does Clay Aiken have to like Adam Lambert because they both are likely homosexual? From what I read on the Pajiba thread, it seems as if Aiken's work hews a lot more closely to this Kris guy's style. Had Aiken voiced the opposite opinion, I'm sure that a lot of people would look at the incongruity of their styles and thought, 'You know that the only reason he's supporting Lambert is because he's probably gay.'
People should be free to be who they are, and that doesn't just apply to sexuality. Ergo, Clay Aiken should be free to like and dislike any artist he chooses. And though he may feel compelled to show solidarity with Lambert on the grounds of sexuality, if he automatically damns all others because he's too engrossed in being a 'Gay Crusader', that's just disingenuous.
I'm not sure if I completely agree with
the Heigl comparison. To me, that means that Clay Aiken would have had reservations about the concept of the show from the word 'go'. I don't think that being appreciative means that he can't observe the change in direction the show has taken. Isn't it pretty telling if one of their judges (according to this site) jumps out in a bikini, out of nowhere?
That isn't to say that people can't have musical preferences that cover a wide range of genres, etc. I partied like a brain-damaged Errol Flynn when I saw Metric last month, and the next day I was back at the piano practicing my Ravel.
I find it kinda ironic that he complains about favoritism (which is true, by the way), when HE was the favorite during his season. I may be wrong, but I am pretty sure Aiken was the big name on Idol then, and Studdard's win was an unexpected victory.
I think he's just angry that he's no longer going to be The Gay Kid Who Didn't Win American Idol But Became Way More Famous Than The Actual Winner.
Don't be so bitter, Clay. It's someone else's turn now.
Jealousy can do wonders.
sounds like somebody (Aiken) wants to himself back into that Idol limelight
clay aiken is a jerk.
that just describes him.
he doesn't have to like him, then again i didnt like adam until i ACTUALLY heard him. of course, the guy can sing, you cant deny TALENT.
do u think briteny spears the jones brothers KATY PERRY can sing !?!?!? HA! so MANY untalented singers out there, yuck, so its nice
to not only have a GAY singer, but one that is talented and a positive role model that doesnt hurt the lgbt community and that alot people, regardless of their sexual orientation respect him.
Clay aiken is jealous and its so obvious why.
he doesnt have much fame or fans.
he may be a talented singer but he completely sucks
as an entertainer
