semi-rhetorical question.Listen: I haven't actually seen The Dark Knight yet (tomorrow), nor am I assigned to review it over on Pajiba. But, while I imagine that Heath Ledger's The Joker is everything everyone says it is -- the best performance in a movie of all time, ever, until the end of time -- and that he deserves all the posthumous praise we can heap upon the man's grave (R.I.P. Heath!), can I just say this: Christian Bale ain't exactly chopped liver, people. Bale is top five one of the best actors of this generation, and along with Nolan, he resurrected the Batman franchise. He'll go down as the best Batman ever, and given the limitations of his character and that suit, I suspect that Bale warrants, natch, deserves some mad fucking props.
So, go see The Dark Knight this weekend. Fawn all over Heath Ledger, rave about the man's performance and what a shame it is that he died so young, but don't forget about Bale, y'all. He's the reason there's even a sequel to Nolan's reboot in the first place.
And see, even the Joker gives it up for The Bat Man.
Heathy kicked Bale's ass in "I'm Not There." And I'm not one to give someone extra props for being dead. Watch it. Bale's performance sucks compared to Heath's. Which is funny because Bale looks way more Dylan, but Heath acts more Dylan, and more sincere.
I'm sure Ledger will be great in "The Dark Knight," but I'm going for the Balegasm.
i'm sure i would have gone to see the movie anyway--sooner or later; but i NEVER miss a gary oldman movie and only saw the first batman movie for that exact reason.
maxpurr9, you make an excellent point on the Gary Oldman front. And I also like the actor who's playing the new DA (though not enough to remember his name or look it up on IMDB). I think one thing we can all agree on is that this movie will be kick-ass, because it's got a kick-ass cast overall.
I think it's unfair to compare their performances in "I'm Not There", seeing as how Bale's character was the subject of a documentary and didn't allow him much room for emotion or anything.
I agree Bale's a fantastic character actor, and a generally awesome actor overall. I have a sneaking suspicion Heath went to the lengths that he did for the role of the Joker simply because he felt he had to measure up to Bale's intense performance. Good for both of them.
Aaron Eckhart. That's who's playing the DA. I know I'm not going to contain a squeal at seeing Christian Bale's smokin' hotness in 5 stories high of IMAX glory.
